Astante boosts great views of the Sandia Mountains, which offer hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and hang gliding activities in the summer, and skiing (including cross-country), snowshoeing, and snowboarding in the winter. The Sandia Tramway takes visitors to Sandia Peak, the 10,000 foot crest of the Sandias. Also, The Turquoise Trail on the east side of the Sandia Mountains is a scenic highway drive with fascinating historic stops from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.
Astante boasts three lovely well maintained private parks within the community. Two of the parks offer a playground for the children, a grass area for activities, and benches and tables. The third park offers a grass area only. Within walking distance, Cabezon park offers a public pool, soccer fields, baseball fields, an enormous grass area with picnic tables and benches.
